AMRA Professional Development Awards

An important and integral component of the American Mindfulness Research Association (AMRA) is to support and recognize the career development of promising mindfulness researchers and teachers. The ultimate goal is to strengthen the fields of mindfulness research and practice. The AMRA Professional Development Award provides yearly merit-based awards in the amount of $500 to eligible individuals in an effort to recognize and support advancements in mindfulness research and practice.

A. Research Award Category – Applications now closed.
The Research Award is made available to individuals who show substantial promise for future impactful research. It recognizes an outstanding research effort by a young investigator in the field of mindfulness research. The basis for evaluation of a candidate is a single peer-reviewed publication supported by a senior investigator’s letter of recommendation. The candidate must be the first author and the article needs to have been published or accepted for publication from 2015 to the application deadline.

Who is eligible?
1. Applicants must be current AMRA members – Join/Renew
2. Must be a doctoral student (PhD, MD, or equivalent) or postdoctoral trainee (within 2 years of terminal degree) who is affiliated with a public or private research university or institute
3. Must be first author of a mindfulness-relevant article published or accepted for publication from 2015 to the application deadline

When is the deadline to apply?
The deadline to apply is September 1, 2016 at 5:00PM EST.

When are awards announced?
Awards are announced in Fall 2016.

How do I apply?
To apply, download and complete the [application form] and send all of the following documents in a single PDF file to by the application deadline:
1. Application form
2. Senior investigator letter of recommendation
3. Copy of the published article or proofs that have been accepted by the journal
4. CV or resume

B. Practice Award Category – Applications now closed.
The Practice Award is made available to dedicated individuals who are early in their careers and training as mindfulness teachers, and who plan on developing a career path as a mindfulness teacher. Funds are intended to be used to further develop mindfulness teacher training and/or increase the reach of their teaching efforts to diverse populations. Applicants must be affiliated with a mindfulness training program (examples: Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, or related formalized training program) or a mindfulness meditation center that has a formal teaching program.
